Meet our TC... Jacqueline Curran

We hear from one of our newest Travel Counsellors, Jacqueline Curran who joined our UAE TC family in January 2021.

After completing her 3-week induction, she sat down with our Marketing Manager, Katie McMichael and went through some of her experiences as to why she joined Travel Counsellors and the advice she would provide other people who may be considering joining our UAE TC family.

Jacqueline, who is originally from Scotland, but left many years ago, has resided in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. With 2-children she was looking for a way she can turn her passion for travel into a business, having not previously worked in the travel industry.

Let’s here what Jacqueline has to say;

Why did you join Travel Counsellors?

I was keen to return to work now that my youngest child is in school however still wanted the flexibility to collect them from school and to be available when schools are closed especially now.

I looked at the market and there were so few jobs and the salaries were so low I felt that I could do so much more and was worth much more. I’d always dreamt of owning my own business and travel counsellors just seemed like a perfect fit for me.

I love travel and have always enjoyed organising trips and events. When I told friends and family about joining travel counsellors everyone thought it was perfect for me.

What did you think of the training?

I have been really impressed with the induction which has included training everything from IT to sales and marketing.

The technology is amazing - every time I have wondered how I will manage an aspect of my business such as keeping track of my customer preferences or who is traveling at any given time the IT system does not fail to impress! It’s so user friendly and makes everything much simpler and keeps you organized even if you’re not naturally!

The advice and support has been great and I really feel part of a bigger team, I have all the benefits of my own business but with the support and expertise of a larger organization it is the best of both worlds.

What advice would you give to anyone considering joining Travel Counsellors?

I would advise anyone considering joining to chat to some existing travel counsellors and find out more about the role - for it seems clear that you’ll only get out of it what you put in but you certainly have all the tools to make it work for you.

In terms of the sales aspect of the role I feel that the bonus is that everyone is a potential customer , everyone goes on holidays at some point and you are not selling them something they don’t want or are reluctant to buy - you’re selling them the perfect holiday to suit their needs. The better you know your customer and their wants and needs the easier it will be to do your job. The most important part of the role is relationships and building a professional and trustworthy reputation to encourage customers to return.

I am so glad I decided to join and I would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to join - if you have the motivation to succeed the right support is there to make it happen for you - I can’t wait to get started.
