Destination Manager

Role Profile & Overview -

Management of core buying strategy for given region. Sourcing and purchasing of all ground products and services at market leading rates in accordance with health and safety and operational requirements. You will ensure that all sales and margin opportunities are maximised through negotiation of all ground product rates via multiple sources, obtaining exclusive added value offers and achieving agreed contribution targets.


  • Responsible for procuring and contracting the right ground product for your given destination into our in-house booking system Phenix, closing gaps and maximising any new opportunities for your destination.
  • Product development, market analysis and trends for your area.
  • Responsible for the increase of sales and margin to your given destination through our in-house booking system Phenix
  • Ensure that product is optimised within our in-house booking system Phenix
  • Securing exclusive offers and Value Adds
  • Ensure quality assurance of product while optimising customer experience.
  • Focusing on and minimising cost of sale for all direct areas of responsibility
  • Price management of product within our in-house booking system to deliver volume while maximising return
  • Maximising all contribution income sources. Ensure personal targets are met and work with the business to achieve the agreed budget.
  • Work closely with the sales support team to ensure required service is offered to Travel Counsellors.
  • Be a point of contact for our Travel Counsellors and be the face of your destination both internally and externally.
  • The sales promotion of product for your given area.

Overview of Tasks and Duties

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the product range and ensure to take every opportunity to grow in-house sales and margins.
  • Frequent monitoring of all available business reports to have a good understanding of trading/product needs specific to you destination to assess product performance.
  • Keep track of what is being sold via Retail and Wholesalers competitors and carry out competitor analysis to identify any opportunities for re-negotiation and or new product.
  • Working with the wider commercial team to ensure the right product is being sourced to close gaps and maximise any new opportunities.
  • Monthly destination report including update and track of key KPI’s
  • Carry out and present regular product reviews to key stakeholders.
  • Contract our ground product via a variety of sources including direct contracting ensuring the agreed contract fits our requirements including payment terms, H&S, legalities etc.
  • Implement new partners and service level agreements, including a tender process.
  • Work within given deadlines to secure all annual rates for your given areas.
  • Build relationships with partners to enhance brands awareness and standards in resort.
  • Carry out rate comparisons for all direct contract product,
  • Daily use of Phenix to check directly contracted hotels are displaying (special offers included), have availability, are competitive and are being preferenced.
  • Frequent monitoring of our in-house pricing to ensure competitiveness and maximum margin returns.
  • Contract rate negotiation ensuring we have the best rates at all times, working within given and set deadlines.
  • Input into tactical pricing strategies to drive sales and/or margin
  • Secure roll over rates for top selling properties (for the following year) and loading leeway grace period.
  • Ensure the contracted special offers are beneficial to our customers and are what we want, need, can use and will drive demand
  • Maintain contract folders for your areas
  • Put together partnership proposals seeking out the best opportunities for TC and out partners to maximise returns
  • Secure annual marketing fund at the same time as securing the contract
  • Achieve and exceed annual marketing/override and conference targets
  • Secure Value Added offer (ideally annual benefit) at the same time as securing the contract
  • Promote given areas, hotels and offers to our TCs including email, phone, TCTV and vlog communications, working with the team to create and maintain a promotion plan.

Skills Required / What We Are Looking For

  • Travel knowledge and experience in a similar role is essential
  • Excellent negotiator with a proven track record of contracting and relationship building
  • High degree of commercial awareness
  • Target driven and motivated
  • Analytical and numerical
  • Experience of working within a highly motivated, fast paced and sales driven environment
  • You should have excellent time management skills and be able to deliver quality work to agreed deadlines
  • Your ability to use initiative and work with the minimum of supervision, maintaining clear focus under pressure is a must
  • Sound knowledge of excel to include a mix skill set of producing summary data, pivot tables and graphs
  • The ability to multi-task whilst maintaining high levels of attention to detail
  • You should have good relationship skills and the ability to engage well with the team and key partners
  • Your attention to detail and accuracy is very important
  • Strong presentation skills
