Meet Our People: Lorna O'Brien, Business Development Executive

Team Ireland

Lorna O’Brien recently joined our support team as a Business Development Executive. Lorna lives in Glanmire, Cork with her husband Shane, and their little girl Erin who is 10 months old. She has 15 years' experience working in travel in both the UK and Ireland.

We are so delighted to welcome Lorna to our team and we know she will be such a huge asset to our company.

“I have worked in the wonderful world of travel for the last 15 years. My first role in the industry began when I made an impromptu decision to move to London on completion of my Diploma in Travel & Tourism. I entered a fast-paced sales environment and hit the ground running and I haven’t looked back since. For the last 10 years I have been a Travel Consultant and Sales Team Leader for Tour America’s Cork Branch.

My role as Business Development Executive makes me one of the main points of contact for Travel Counsellors across the nation who may seek support and guidance on a daily basis, in particular the newer recruits who may require assistance or training in order to maximise conversion and ensure repeat business. I strongly felt that this role would be a perfect fit for me, as I can completely appreciate the complexity of a sales role and the challenges it can bring at times, whilst also using my previous Team Leader experience to provide a listening ear and a helping hand when needed. I was eager to evolve in this area and the timing was right, so luckily it all fell into place.

I work with the most talented professionals in the country and contribute to their success story which is a huge privilege for me. There is no limit to what I can learn from the Travel Counsellors, and equally my position allows me to share my knowledge and encourage the growth of their businesses, making it a real team effort. Also not forgetting the endless opportunities to develop on a personal and professional level, whilst having the comfort of a supportive network which is hugely important, and this is exactly what Travel Counsellors provides - a sense of togetherness.

Travel will always be my first passion, what I love the most is that you never know what you can stumble across or who you can meet that will make the trip a memorable one. There is always a surprise waiting to be discovered.

I have travelled extensively across the USA and enjoyed some very memorable experiences, none more so than a trip to the states of Washington and Oregon on the Northwest Coast. Cannon Beach in northern Oregon was the first place I dipped my toes into the Pacific Ocean, it’s a very special place. I would highly recommend a fly / drive holiday in this part of the world; it offers a perfect balance between exciting cities and spectacular scenery.”
