Accounts Assistant Job Specification

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

The initial task will be a bank reconciliation project where you will assist with the cleardown of unreconciled items by matching between systems. Other tasks will include:

  • Daily upload of bank statements and reconciliation of these to cash postings
  • Daily cash postings from customers remittances and bank statements entries
  • Daily allocation of customer bank receipts against sales invoices raised
  • Reconciling customer credit card payments against statements
  • Reconciling customer supplier payments against statements
  • Select the most urgent timing difference to work on, based on age of query and any urgent flag set by the team leader/manager
  • Communicate and build relations with other departments (onshore and offshore) in order to investigate and resolve any aged queries or avoid further delays.
  • Liaise with other teams effectively to resolve legacy aged queries or process issues where required, informing relevant management where necessary
  • Writing new rules in a recently implemented matching system and enlisting the support and buy in for the AP and AR teams
  • Preparing journals
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations including multiple cash and bank accounts (ensuring these balance on a monthly basis and queries are followed up proactively)
  • Involvement in collating information for both the Year End Audit

Experience & Qualifications

  • Have recent knowledge of working as an Accounts Assistant or Management Accountant
  • Understanding of bank reconciliation concepts and processes with practical experience
  • Have strong IT skills, particularly MS Excel
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good attention to detail / thoroughness
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Good adaptability, flexibility and resourcefulness
  • We’re looking for someone bright and tenacious who can resolve issues by developing relationships with colleagues across various areas of the business
  • QBE or studying towards AAT level 3 or first stages of ACCA/CIMA preferred
