As a business owner Liezel has freedom and flexibility in her life. She can immediately enjoy a perfect work-life balance.
What is your background and where did you work before becoming a Travel Counsellor?
My love for travel started 17 years ago when I boarded my first flight overseas to Australia. I went to work and travel on luxury cruise liners, where I travelled around the world for about 3 years. I then started working as a travel agent for a big international travel chain. The next year I worked abroad for another 2 years. I then settled back in South Africa. I worked as a wholesale consultant specializing in cruising & tailor-made tours to North & South America and Europe. In 2009 I was employed with Travel Corporation as a sales manager for 9 years. I gained extensive sales and marketing experience. This combined with my travels and my consulting experience, has given me the perfect recipe to run my own travel business.
Tell us a little bit about yourself? My wonderful, supportive husband, Allen and our beautiful little boy, Joshua are my everything. We live in the heart of the Boland in the town of Wellington and we love it here – even though Summers are extreme! We love the outdoors, whether it be hiking, cycling, going on road trips, socializing and seeking adventure where ever we go. I love cooking, DIYing around the house and reading. Of course, I live, breathe, eat and dream travel! I have visited over 48 countries of which Alaska was the most breathtaking, Prague the most beautiful and France my favourite country.
What will being a Travel Counsellor mean to you? Becoming a Travel Counsellor will bring me a better work - life balance. I am so thankful that I will now have the opportunity to work from home and to be more present in my family’s life. I thrive on relationship building and making dreams come true. I am looking forward to being able to offer my clients a concierge travel service. The feedback from happy customers is the best feeling ever.
What motivated you to start your own travel business? My season of always working for someone else has come to an end. I knew I had the skills, expertise and drive to do more and to run a successful business. With the incredible backup and support of Travel Counsellors, I now have the platform to live out my goals, visions and ideas.
What are you looking forward to most about being a Travel Counsellor?
Having the freedom to manage my own business. To build new relationships and to grow with no limitations or anyone holding me back.
Have you set yourself any goals or milestones for what you want to achieve in your first year?
Yes, I want to reach R1 million in sales by end December!
Have you started planning how you will grow your business/find new customers, and if so how
Yes, by doing a lot of networking in my local community and asking friends and family to refer business my way. I will also promote my business across the various social media channels. I have planned a launch in May and will be attending a wedding expo in August.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? My next travel goal is to drive through Route 66 in a Ford Mustang for my 40th birthday! I love the USA! From the hustle and bustle of New York and Las Vegas, to the most breathtaking and stunning national parks like the Grand Canyon and Arches National Park! Each one is different and unique! And then of course, there’s the great people and the food! I could live there!
What does your future without limits look like?
Exceeding my business and personal goals. And celebrating the gift of time with my family, which I haven’t had for a long time.
If you can related to Liezel's story then we would love to speak to you.
