I’m looking forward to seeing my business and customer base grow in 2022

Meath-based travel expert Katrina McMullan started her journey with Travel Counsellors back in October 2019. With over 20 years’ experience in the travel industry, she made the decision to leave her Agency Manager role and took the next step in her career joining Travel Counsellors.

Hear from Katrina in her own words.

How did you find the courage to become self-employed?

I did quite a lot of research into Travel Counsellors before reaching out. I felt the experience and skillset I gained from my previous roles would help me build a successful business. It also felt like the right time and for the benefit of my career, joining Travel Counsellors was the next step.

As well, having spoken to Cathy Burke shortly afterwards, she put me in contact with fellow TC’s Emer & Imelda who had also previously come from an agency background and they each reaffirmed the benefits of joining TC. With the support of family & friends, I was sure it was the right decision for me.

Tell us one thing you love about being part of the TC community?

The friendships I have made in the short time that I have been here. If Covid has given me one gift professionally it was the ability to get to know so many other Travel Counsellors that I now, consider great friends.

Also, the support from Head Office both in Cork and the UK is second to none. One of my biggest concerns was that I would feel isolated running my business. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Knowing there is always someone there at the other end of the phone when I need something or need reassuring is great and no issue is ever too big or small.

If you were to give advice to another Agency Manager thinking of going out on their own, what would you tell them?

I had preconceived ideas of what Travel Counsellors was all about and once I was able to sit down and talk to someone, I don’t mind admitting I was wrong! Make sure you ask all the right questions and that it will suit your lifestyle, career outlook. If you are thinking of making the move or even have a few questions about how we run our business, any Travel Counsellor including myself would be happy to sit down and talk open and honestly about the experience.

Has your perspective on how you work changed since joining Travel Counsellors?
I have always worked hard and been very ambitious. That hasn’t changed, which is why Travel Counsellors is the right fit for me. They want you to have goals and ambitions, and they are backing you 100% to achieve them. At the end of the day, it is very rewarding to see the results of all the hard work you put in. Knowing your customers get to go on their dream holiday or re-unite with their loved ones.

What are you most looking forward to for your business in 2022?

My new customer base is primarily referrals which I’m extremely proud of. I’m looking forward to seeing that grow in 2022. I have goals set for the year which I’m determined to work to achieve.

I’m looking forward to making up for the last two years and getting my customers back travelling on their long-awaited adventures.
