Meet our People: Melanie Morrissey, Senior Marketing Executive

“I joined the Travel Counsellors team during the summer of 2019. From the beginning I knew it was the right move for me. I heard about Travel Counsellors through a friend whose family had booked a holiday through their local Travel Counsellor. I’ve never heard such a glowing review of a service and how the holiday was exactly what they dreamed of and more. After hearing this story and how personal the service was, I knew this was a company I wanted to join. Travel, marketing, excellent customer service and entrepreneurship are just some of my passions, so it was a great match.”

Melanie, who is from Cork, has extensive industry experience working in marketing and digital marketing roles in Ireland and Australia for the past six years. She has a Diploma in Sales Development from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School and a Double Master’s Degree of Business in Internationalisation from Waterford Institute of Technology and Brest Business School, France. Melanie is also a member of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Cork.

Tell us about your role at Travel Counsellors?

Every day is very different, which I love, as I like the flexibility and not knowing what each day will bring. My role is to create the marketing strategy and implement it across the business. I work closely with Nessa and Patrice; we work together to ensure we are creating relevant content for Travel Counsellors Ireland. I am responsible for the PR of Travel Counsellors Ireland and supporting our Travel Counsellors on all things marketing and social media marketing. We conduct regular marketing workshops and training sessions to keep everyone up to date with the latest trends.

What do you love most about your job?

One of my favourite things is when a project you have implemented is working successfully, and you can see all your hard work coming to life. I love the fact that I have the freedom to be as creative as I want to be.

You work very closely with Travel Counsellors daily – what do you think is the best thing about being a Travel Counsellor?

Being your own boss. All our Travel Counsellors are born entrepreneurs and are very inspirational people. Making the decision to run and manage your own business is a big move and it’s great to speak with each of them and to learn how they’ve grown their businesses and WOW each customer. Our Travel Counsellors put their own personal touch on everything they do and it’s wonderful to watch them and their businesses grow.

What does Travel Counsellors mean to you?

Being part of the Travel Counsellors Community is amazing and it’s so positive. Part of my role is to offer support and guidance to our Travel Counsellors to help them to achieve their goals and dreams. This is very different from any position I’ve held before and I really enjoy it.

Where would you recommend travelling to yourself?

I was fortunate to get the opportunity to work in and travel around Australia for a year. This was an incredible experience and one that will be with me forever. I would highly recommend a visit the wonderful island down under and to add Fraser Island, Kakadu National Park, The Whitsundays and Uluru Ayers rock to the list to places to visit. Each place is just so different and has a very magical feeling about them. One tip - bring factor 50!
