Meet Our People: Nessa Hurley, Careers and Marketing Executive

“I started working in the travel industry 4 years ago. Before that I worked with other lifestyle brands, but travel has always been a huge interest of mine so I was delighted to start working for a global travel company like Travel Counsellors. I get to work with so many interesting people from all over the world. We are a team, and all look out for each other.”

Nessa Hurley joined the Travel Counsellors head office marketing team in 2015 whilst completing her master’s degree in marketing. Since joining the company, she spent a year in Dubai with her husband and daughter but the cooler climate and green fields lured her home to Ireland in 2018. She looks after Careers and Marketing from her home office in Dublin.

Tell us about your role at Travel Counsellors?

My role is split between two main areas. I look after the recruitment marketing for the company which involves lots of different projects from developing our website to producing videos with our team to use online. It is a very exciting time for Travel Counsellors with a lot of investment being made in technology and the digital side of the business. I also look after recruitment – chatting to people who are interested in becoming Travel Counsellors and making sure that we are welcoming the right people as we are very protective of our brand.

What do you love most about your job?

The people! I get to meet some fantastic people and hear about their lives and ambitions. I could talk to people all day about what inspires and motivates them. I also love the creative side of my role especially working closely with our Travel Counsellors on video production and website content. I love getting to know them and their families and showcasing their passion for their businesses.

What does Travel Counsellors mean to you?

Working for Travel Counsellors offers me incredible flexibility. I’m lucky that I’m able to work remotely from Dublin and do part-time hours which works for me and my family. My colleagues in Cork are always there for me when I need their help. My opinions are valued, my personal life outside of work is valued and we all care for each other and want to help each other in any way that we can.

Where would you recommend travelling to yourself?

I was in Bermuda last November and I absolutely loved it. It was only just over two hour’s flight from New York – we left snow behind us in New York and landed to tropical sunshine and blue skies in Bermuda. We hired a scooter which was so handy to really experience the island life. I would love to go back again.
