Suzie Hennessy - What's it like being a Travel Counsellor?

Suzie Hennessy

Having worked in a travel agency in Fermoy for 10 years, Cork-based Suzie Hennessy moved to a role with a national healthcare company. After two years she found herself really missing travel and knew she had to reignite her passion. She lives in Fermoy with her husband Michael, their children Saoirse, Michael & Teidí and their dog Izzy.

“I always had an interest in becoming a Travel Counsellor, I took a short career break from travel and I really missed it, but I really didn’t want to return to the usual office hours. I could see the benefits that being a Travel Counsellor had to offer from chatting to other Travel Counsellors that I knew from the trade. I made a phone call to Nessa Hurley in the Head Office team last April and straight away I knew I was making the right choice.

The thing I love most about being a Travel Counsellor is the flexibility of working my own hours whilst still earning a good wage. Whilst I am very busy, I now have a good balance between work and home life.

Personally, it is so much easier for me to be at home when necessary for the kids. It is great to not have to worry about getting time off when they are sick or for school events. School holidays are much easier now that I have my own business. My older children are at an age now where they understand that when I am in the office I am working. They are delighted to have me around me too. As well as being quite active in promoting my business on social media, I am constantly networking and trying to get my name out there in my local area. Providing a personal service to each of my clients means that a lot of my business comes from referrals.

Travel Counsellors is such a great company. I am really enjoying my new career as a travel business owner and the future looks bright for me and my business.”
