A day in the life of British Mum and Recruiter of Travel Counsellors – Holly McCann

A day in the life of British Mum and Recruiter of Travel Counsellors – Holly McCann

6am - Good morning!

I am actually the last to rise in my house in the mornings as my Husband is a PE Teacher so up and away super early to get started with swim squads and running clubs etc and luckily our lovely Nanny Merly is up early to help get my son Jaxson ready. It’s a quick check of emails over breakfast for me before I am out the door.

8am – Arrive at our office in Business Bay

I am very fortunate to work for a company who fully embraces flexible working which is such a luxury in Dubai. I was able to do more working from home and change my hours slightly when returning to work after having my baby in January - an 8am-4pm work day works perfectly for me and in theory helps me avoid the worst of the dreaded Dubai traffic.

My morning is spent replying to all the lovely candidates who have contacted me over night, keen to find out if a career as a Travel Counsellor might be right for them.

10am – It’s off to The Emirates Holidays building to host a Discovery Presentation

I run these information discovery presentations regularly as they are a great way of people learning about world of Travel Counsellors, how the business partnership works and also have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of one of our Travel Counsellors who is already running their business here in Dubai.

12noon -and its back to the office via Costa Coffee

I meet with a lovely British Mum who attended my last discovery presentation. Although she hasn’t worked in travel before she has travelled extensively herself and is so passionate when talking about travel – something I always look for in our future TCs. We talk through her plans for her business, all her opportunities for networking and plans for social media when her business goes live. We also explore in detail what her financial business plan looks like along with how much time she will have to dedicate to her business around her family commitments. One of the other attractions to running a business as a Travel Counsellor was that its home-based and totally flexible and portable so she can still manage to do the school run and won’t miss any of the important family activities.

2pm Off to host a hotel inspection

One of my favorite things to do, having a tour around a fabulous 5 star hotel in Dubai. The UAE is such a fantastic place to be in the travel industry, its so fast paced and has so many new beautiful properties opening each year. It’s a great opportunity for our TCs to visit all the hotels food and beverage outlets and amenities, check out the kids clubs, look at different room configurations including the all-important interconnecting rooms which are so popular with families here.

4pm Its back to my home in Mira

I take Jaxson for a quick swim before his dinner. I find it’s a great way of tiring him out at the end of the day and a nice way for me to start unwinding after a busy day.

7.30pm – Relax

Its time to have dinner and a catch up with my Husband. Winter evenings in Dubai are the best and I love nothing more than opening a nice bottle of grape and sitting in the garden by our fire-pit. A few emails from my phone to confirm tomorrows appointments then its off to bed I go.
