Meet Abu Dhabi based Travel Counsellor, Elizabeth Booth

Tell us a bit about your experience/background Although I don't have a traditional travel background, my previous career as a Bid Manager in the UK construction industry has been invaluable in my current role. The skills I developed in managing complex projects and organizing multifaceted tasks have seamlessly translated into travel planning. From coordinating logistics to ensuring every detail is meticulously arranged, my experience in construction has equipped me with a unique perspective and an ability to navigate challenges effectively. This unexpected journey into the travel industry has allowed me to apply my expertise in a new and exciting way, turning my passion for exploration into a rewarding career.

What stood out to you about TC? I wanted to try something completely different, and living in the UAE presented the perfect opportunity to make that leap. With a passion for planning travel, the idea of helping others create their dream trips was incredibly appealing, especially since I approached this venture with a sense of fun and adventure. Joining TC has been a fantastic decision, as they provide the essential support needed to ensure I never feel alone on this journey. The combination of my enthusiasm for travel and the backing of a dedicated team has made this experience both fulfilling and exciting.

Talk a bit about your recruitment journey I thoroughly enjoyed the training process, which included both in-person sessions and mainly online modules via Teams—perfect for my situation in Abu Dhabi. The flexibility of working through the modules at my own pace suited my learning style. What I appreciated most about the process was starting with a small team, allowing us to support each other as we navigated the same stages of learning. This camaraderie made a significant difference, encouraging and sharing insights that enhanced our overall experience. It’s been a great way to build connections while gaining valuable knowledge in the travel industry.

How easy did you find it to learn the tech and systems at Travel Counsellors? Phenix is an excellent system that becomes quite simple to use once you get the hang of it. I’ve found the intranet and online hubs to be particularly useful, especially for accessing marketing resources and knowledge articles. The support systems available online are also very effective, providing quick assistance whenever needed. Overall, the combination of user-friendly features and robust support makes navigating Phenix a smooth and efficient experience.

What’s the most valuable part of the support we offer our franchisees? The support team is incredibly helpful and possesses a wealth of knowledge that has been invaluable to me. Even after completing my induction, I can always reach out for assistance, ensuring that my learning continues well beyond the initial training. I’ve found that I learn something new every day through hands-on experiences and the encouragement of my fellow TCs. To maximize my growth, I also set aside time each week for additional training, whether it’s participating in destination webinars or supplier sessions—the opportunities are endless and truly enriching!

How would you describe the TC community? I was pleasantly surprised by how helpful the community would be! Other TCs are always ready to lend a hand when you find yourself stuck, and their wealth of experience is invaluable. There are plenty of opportunities to meet up with fellow TCs, which fosters a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie—you truly never feel alone in this journey. I’ve already made some great friends along the way, making this experience not only professionally rewarding but personally enriching as well.

What do you love most about your job? I genuinely enjoy planning itineraries and conducting research—when I dive into destinations I've never visited, I often feel as if I’ve experienced them myself! The thrill of uncovering unique spots and crafting memorable journeys is incredibly fulfilling. Receiving positive feedback and referrals from clients is the icing on the cake; it’s the best feeling to know that my efforts have made a real impact on their travel experiences! 😊
