From Stay-at-Home Mum to Travel Planner: A Journey of Connection and Passion
What were you doing before becoming a Travel Counsellor?
I was a stay-at-home mum of three, ready to rejoin the workforce but struggling to find something that offered true flexibility. At the same time, I was running a Facebook group for Aussie and Kiwi mums in Dubai, a space that connected me with others and reminded me how much I love building community. That, combined with my passion for planning travel, made me realise this could be more than just a hobby.
What attracted you to Travel Counsellors?
The flexibility was a huge factor. I needed something that allowed me to be present for my kids but still build something for myself. I’d also booked trips with a Travel Counsellor before and had such a great experience, so when I looked into it, everything just made sense - the support, the tools, and the community.
Describe the joining process
The joining process was clear, supportive, and honestly enjoyable. I had a few calls with the team where they walked me through exactly how everything works - no pressure, just open conversations. They explained everything in detail, answered all my questions, and made sure I fully understood what to expect. It never felt rushed or overwhelming, and I always felt like they genuinely wanted me to succeed. It gave me so much confidence that this was the right move.
How would you describe the technology at Travel Counsellors?
The technology is honestly one of the best parts of being a TC. Everything is designed to make running your business easier and more efficient, even if you don’t come from a tech background. Phenix, our main booking system, is incredibly user-friendly and powerful - it puts everything I need in one place. We also have the MyTC app, which keeps my clients connected and informed throughout their journey. Plus, there’s constant support, regular updates, and training to help us stay ahead. It’s professional, seamless, and gives me the confidence to focus on what I do best - looking after my clients.
How would you describe the support at Travel Counsellors?
The support at Travel Counsellors is honestly second to none. From the moment I joined, I felt like I was part of something bigger. The team in the head office are incredibly professional, responsive, and reassuring. Whether I have a question about systems, supplier issues, or need help with a client booking, there’s always someone ready to step in. They make it so easy to focus on what matters - building relationships and looking after my clients. It’s that kind of reliable, behind-the-scenes support that gives me the confidence to run my business day to day, knowing I’m never doing it alone.
How does it feel to be part of the TC community?
It’s like having a team without being in an office. The TC community is full of people who genuinely want to see each other succeed. We celebrate wins, share tips, and lift each other up - whether it’s in WhatsApp groups, virtual catchups, or in-person events. That sense of connection makes such a difference, especially when you work from home. It’s supportive, inspiring, and honestly, one of my favourite parts of being a Travel Counsellor.
What opportunities have you had since becoming a Travel Counsellor?
One of the first big opportunities I had was going on a fam trip to the Maldives just a few months after finishing my induction. It was incredible to experience the destination firsthand, visit multiple resorts, and speak directly with the teams. It gave me so much confidence when recommending the Maldives to my clients.
My husband and I were also invited to attend the inaugural sailing of a cruise ship, such an exciting experience and a great chance to see what cruising has to offer from both a personal and professional perspective.
I’ve also been invited to tour some of Dubai’s top hotels, getting insider insights from the hotel teams themselves - a great way to really understand what makes each property special. I’ve joined webinars with experts from countries all over the world, which keeps my knowledge current and helps me bring fresh, informed ideas to every trip I plan.
What’s the best thing about being a TC
It’s being a part of my clients’ memories, knowing I’ve helped create something meaningful that will stay with them long after the trip is over. I also love the freedom it gives me as a mum to build a business that fits around my family, without having to choose one over the other. It’s more than just a job; it’s something I’m proud of and genuinely love doing. And lastly, the community. I’ve built friendships here that I know will last a lifetime.
