Alex has joined Travel Counsellors with a passion for life that will fuel the growth and success of her business.

What is your background and where did you work before becoming a Travel Counsellor?

I have been in the travel industry for 18 years and worked for a prominent travel company since 2006. Before that, I worked on cruise ships and travelled the world.

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, hobbies, pets, interests, places you've travelled)

I live in the beautiful city of Cape Town with my husband and 2 beautiful girls. We love the outdoors. We have a pet Schnauzer called Charlie and soon a little female Schnauzer will join our family. I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy body-boarding with my girls and hiking. I have been blessed to travel to many countries of which my favourites are Greece and Italy.

What does becoming a Travel Counsellor mean for you? (Whether it’s a better work/life balance, more time with your family, or being able to do more for your customers, how do you think being a TC will change your personal and work life?)

I am so excited to start with TC because I can be my own boss and write my own pay cheque but I am also extremely excited to have more flexibility in my personal life. Work/life balance is important to me. I believe one should work hard but also enjoy the little things in life.

What motivated you to start your own travel business?

I have wanted to join TC for some time now, but was a little nervous starting my own franchise. After chatting to my friend Melody who is also part of TC I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it.

What are you looking forward to most about being a Travel Counsellor? I am looking forward to having a work-life balance. I want to work hard to earn a better income to travel more with my family.

Have you set yourself any goals or milestones for what you want to achieve in your first year? Yes, I have set myself some goals. My main goal is to go out there and market myself to family and friends so that my client base will grow by word of mouth. I have also set myself a goal for a monthly income which I would love to achieve.

Have you started planning how you will grow your business/find new customers, and if so how?

Yes, I have started planning. I am going to contact family and friends first. I am also involved in the school PTA and sports days which I think is a great way to expand my network and grow my business.

What do you love most about working in the travel industry?

I love making people's dreams come true. Every holiday is unique and exciting which makes it an interesting industry to work in.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Greece and Maldives, I have been to Greece and just adore the destination but my family has not so I would love to share this beautiful experience with them. I have never been to the Maldives, it's a destination still on my bucket list.
