Meet Julia: From Wholesale - Retail - Now a Travel Franchise Owner
Julia's company did away with their division. But one closed door, opened another door of opportunity..
Julia is now a Travel Counsellor franchisee.
This new opportunity will give her freedom and flexibility. She will have a great work life balance where she can fit her running training around her work.
We caught up with Julia and asked her a few questions, to learn more about her journey to becoming a Travel Counsellor.
What is your background and where did you work before becoming a Travel Counsellor? I started my travel career at an Wholesaler doing ticketing and documentation. I then moved onto becoming a wholesale consultant. After four years, I moved to a large retail agency where I spent 9 years consulting. I also worked for TIC Insurance for a few years. I won an award for top wholesale consultant, 2 years in a row. I then joined another Wholesale company doing wholesale and retail for 4 years. Then I landed up going back to the large retail company where I had worked previous for another five years. It was here that I was offered a work from home position. I was the inhouse wholesale consultant for all their independent consultants. The company did away with their inhouse wholesale brand, and I’m excited to start my own travel franchise with Travel Counsellors.
Tell us a little bit about yourself I am married with 2 daughters who attend St Catherines Convent. I am a keen runner, have completed 2 Comrades. I make homemade crocheted toys. Recently also started making homemade jewellery for extra income. I also love to play the piano. We have a zoo at home - four dogs, a bearded dragon, 2 snakes and my pet tarantula - Lilly. I have travelled extensively and have been to Mauritius, Zanzibar, Seychelles, the Comoros, Thailand, Malaysia, Egypt, Spain, Croatia, New York, Las Vegas, Zimbabwe, Australia and Spain...
What motivated you to start your own travel business? Knowing that I work for myself and have the flexibility to service my clients from home motivated me. Being my own boss, and going out to meet clients and have that personal touch with them excites me.
Have you set yourself any goals or milestones for what you want to achieve in your first year? I hope to have one or two corporate business accounts. I want to get a good repeat client base - customers that will come back to me and trust me.
What do you love most about working in the travel industry? I love to tell people of my travel experiences and to share my travel knowledge. I also enjoy learning new products and look forward to turning my clients dreams into reality.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? My dream is to go to Hawaii. I am a beach baby and can picture myself in a luxury five star hotel soaking up the sun and sipping cocktails all day.
