Flexing my business to meet corporate clients’ needs during the pandemic

Sean Hickey joined Travel Counsellors in 2018, and works exclusively with clients in TV production.

TV production has largely been exempt from many travel restrictions meaning a large number of Sean’s clients have continued to travel, albeit with new requirements.

Just one example?

Sean was enlisted to suggest destinations that were safe to travel to, working closely with producers at every step of the filming journey.

For a production company to involve their travel provider in planning and decision-making is uncommon in TV and a real testament to Sean’s expertise, earning Sean a feature in the show's credit reel.

Providing trusted travel advice to drive decision-making

Sean has provided travel for TV production company, Renegade Pictures, for a number of years and works behind the scenes to bring to life Channel 5’s prime-time show Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild.

The production team usually plan shows many months in advance and have well-defined briefs when it comes to destination selection.

During the pandemic, Sean was enlisted to suggest destinations that were safe to travel to, working closely with producers at every step of the filming journey.

For a production company to involve their travel provider in planning and decision-making is uncommon in TV and a real testament to Sean’s expertise and the trust he’s built with his client.

As a result, Sean’s name was featured in the credits roll of the show, something that almost never happens in TV.

Business travel is fast-paced, but now even more so

Travel Counsellors can set their own working hours, and have access to everything they need at home, meaning they can offer a 24-7 service to clients if they choose.

In the midst of the second UK lockdown in November 2020, one of Sean’s clients was filming a reality show out in Antigua.

As contestants received their COVID test results on a Friday, Sean was able to change passport and flight details as required ahead of their scheduled flight on the Sunday, without too much impact on his personal time.

“Putting in the extra hours for your clients is just what you do as a business owner. Travel is 24-7, so not being restricted to traditional office hours, and not having to commute to an office, makes it so much easier to provide the service that my clients value.”

Keeping travellers safe at the sharp end of lockdown

At the start of the pandemic, Sean had 3 different crews each with 10+ people in destinations across the globe.

At the announcement of lockdown, Sean worked with the TC Support team in Manchester as well as other Corporate Travel Counsellors to get clients back to the UK safely.

“It was hard to know what you could and couldn’t do as well as trying to get everything sorted at the same time. To be able to pick up the phone and speak to another person was really reassuring. I wouldn’t have been able to look after my clients so well had it not been for the help of the TC Community.”
