Meet our Franchise Sales team – say hello to Sue

We caught up with Franchise Sales Consultant, Sue Law, to get the lowdown on why she loves her job and how she can help people like you to realise their dreams of becoming a travel business owner.

Hi Sue! Could you start by telling us a little bit about you?

I spend a lot of time with my family as this is really important to me. I enjoy walking along the beach – I’m lucky to have one close to where I live. I also love gardening, home improvements, and travel.

How did you get into recruitment?

I’ve worked in travel for almost 25 years, predominantly as a Sales Manager both in retail travel and luxury tour operations. Coming to Travel Counsellors was a great opportunity to still work in the travel industry but be able to help and support people in starting their own travel businesses. It was the perfect opportunity for me as I could still draw on my experience.

What brought you to Travel Counsellors?

When joining a business, it’s important to me to believe in the company and its values. Travel Counsellors are very well established with an excellent reputation – and they look after people within their community.

What do you love most about your job?

I love being part of someone’s dream and seeing this become a reality, knowing I’ve been able to support that person with their decision when the time is right for them.

What’s been your highlight so far during your time at Travel Counsellors?

I think it would have to be having one of the Travel Counsellors that I recruited hit Gold in his first nine months – meaning he’s now one of our highest-earning franchisees.

What can prospective Travel Counsellors expect from the recruitment process?
We treat every prospective Travel Counsellor individually, as each person has a different reason for why they want to start a franchise. We offer guidance and support throughout the process and ensure we answer all their questions to give them a clear understanding of what’s required. When they are ready to take the next steps, we hold a business meeting and showcase the system. We discuss their business plans in more detail before offering a franchise agreement. The whole process is taken at the speed of the prospective Travel Counsellor. It’s not a process we rush. The time has to be right for them to make it a success.

How do you reassure people who have reservations about becoming a business owner?

We have a community of Travel Counsellors already running successful businesses who are always happy to chat with a prospective Travel Counsellor and answer any questions they may have. Alternatively, we hold Discovery Days which allow people to come to our support hub or an external venue for an informal day, to get further insight into the business.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to set up their own travel business?

They must have the financial security to afford the investment and enough funds to support themselves in the early days while building their business. It’s also important to have a good network of contacts.

In your opinion, what do you think sets Travel Counsellors apart from other travel franchises?

I think it’s the technology and support, along with the breadth of commercial products we have to offer. This enables the Travel Counsellors to be the tour operator as well as a travel agent.

Whether you’re already selling holidays or want to take your life in a brand-new direction, Sue and her team can help you decide whether becoming a Travel Counsellor is right for you. Get in touch today for an informal chat and to find out more about our award-winning franchise model.
