“There’s a huge difference between Travel Counsellors and other companies” - why Nikki has rejoined our community

Here at Travel Counsellors, we’re always looking for new franchisees to strengthen our community. And sometimes, we have the exciting opportunity to welcome back previous business owners.

Hear from Nikki Cumming, who has recently come back to Travel Counsellors after 14 years away. We caught up with her to find out her reasons for rejoining and what she’s looking forward to about getting back to running a business she loves.

Nikki-Cumming

Welcome back to the Travel Counsellors community, Nikki! Why did you decide to return?

Although I left Travel Counsellors 14 years ago, I always knew they were a wonderful company, and I told many people who asked the same. At the time, I left due to personal reasons, and I did regret leaving. Throughout the last few years, I felt that a return may be on the cards.

I’m lucky because my best friend (who I met on induction 18 years ago!) is still a Travel Counsellor, so it’s great to have her by my side as I restart my journey.

What do you think makes Travel Counsellors stand out from other homeworking companies and travel agencies?

There’s a huge difference between Travel Counsellors and other companies – from the initial recruitment process to the support, the family feel, and the general company ethos.

I have worked for three companies since. One of them was a family-owned business, but none of them compared to Travel Counsellors in terms of inclusivity and support.

I also think our financial protection is a huge selling point and gives the customer peace of mind.

How did you find the induction process?

The induction process is excellent. The modules and self-learning are very relevant and in-depth. I was surprised at the huge range of knowledge and skillsets within my induction cohort!

What are you looking forward to most about rejoining Travel Counsellors?

I’m looking forward to being my own boss again and having the freedom to manage my days around my enquiries. I’m also looking forward to all the networking opportunities. It’s easy to network without even realising you’re doing it.

I see myself being a Travel Counsellor for the long-term. I have no need to plan my retirement (although I’m nowhere near that yet!) as I can just continue selling holidays that I love for as long as I want to.

What’s the best thing about working in the travel industry?

I love working in the industry because I love to travel myself. Holidays are hugely important in my life. I like to have at least one or two to look forward to. I still have a massive bucket list, even though I’m reasonably well-travelled. There are still so many places that I want to see. Being able to sell destinations that I’ve been to, or want to go to, is just the best!

If anybody is thinking of joining Travel Counsellors or is in a similar position to me and wants to come back, they shouldn’t hesitate.
