Why TC Teams has been transformational for Corporate Travel Counsellors, Karen and Nikki

Our TC Teams model lets our independent business owners collaborate with other Travel Counsellors to share knowledge, manage enquiries, and enhance their earnings. You may have read our recent blog with Mahul Patel who transformed his business with TC Teams, and now we’re meeting Corporate Travel Counsellors, Karen Jones and Nikki Thompson, who are also reaping the benefits of being able to work together.

Hi Karen and Nikki! How did you both come to work together in a TC Team?

We worked at the same TMC before Travel Counsellors, so it only felt right that we teamed up as Travel Counsellors.

Tell us a bit about how your team set-up works

We have a dedicated email address for shared clients and use Microsoft Teams to communicate to decide who will work on which enquiries. We decide who will work on what based on our strengths and skillsets, based on the destination or the type of trip.

We also plan our holidays around each other to make sure one of us will always be around to ensure uninterrupted service levels. We’re both hard-working and client-focussed, endeavouring to offer the best service. Our setup works seamlessly and the technology at Travel Counsellors enables us to easily view shared bookings and split the commission.

How has working in a team benefitted you both – both in terms of your business, and personally?

We enjoy sharing clients together as this has enabled us to increase the overall size of our portfolios while having an extra level of support available. We always bounce ideas off each other and offer the best service we can, while constantly pushing each other outside of our comfort zones to achieve the very best for our clients and our businesses.

I hit Gold in my first year and have maintained it for the last two years – and I’ve actively encouraged Nikki to push herself to do the same. Having Nikki on my team has added to my success, as I know she is the very best in everything she does and our clients love her.

Nikki – how has working with Karen accelerated your success?

Karen has supported me since the first day I joined and has been integral in guiding me through making some business decisions. She has been an unwavering support thus far in my Travel Counsellors journey. The travel industry can be unpredictable at times and an extra set of hands who you can trust in times of need is essential.

Karen – what have you learned from Nikki?

It’s great to share our knowledge and I do believe that teamwork makes the dream work! We have had great client feedback and I really respect how she has strived to push herself out of her comfort zone. We’re already planning our Gold trip to Morocco together, and I will be the first person to raise a glass when she hits Gold (which she’s on track to do very soon!).

We have different skillsets which complement each other and are always willing to point each other in the right direction for training or opportunities to improve.

You can choose who to work with and share all knowledge.

Why would you recommend new Travel Counsellors to take advantage of TC Teams?

You can work with experienced consultants and learn from different people. If you’re new, it also allows you to grow your business by working on accounts with others.

What would you say are the key benefits to working in teams?

There are so many, but we would say client retention, peace of mind, joint knowledge, work-life balance, and having fun.
