From healthcare to holiday planning – a change of direction for Matt and Andy

Having owned a business previously in the healthcare sector, Matt and Andy Richards wanted to pivot into an industry they’re passionate about – travel. Great to meet you, both! What were you doing before you joined Travel Counsellors?

Before Travel Counsellors, we owned our own business within the healthcare industry, employing over 250 staff and turning over six figures.

Why did you want to move into the world of travel?

We sold our business last August following a change in personal circumstances. With us having a real passion for travel and the Travel Counsellors business model allowing us to be flexible around our family life, we decided to use our passion to help others explore the world.

What were the main things you were both looking for in your next business opportunity?

The flexibility and the ability to grow a business at our own pace.

How did you initially find out about Travel Counsellors, and what was it that piqued your interest?

We have used Travel Counsellors for a number of years. We decided to look into it more and spoke with our Travel Counsellor about how she found the business model. The main thing was Phenix, the booking platform that the business uses - there is not another business quite like it. We were also drawn in by the support and the people-first ethos.

Did you explore other travel franchises? If so, how did Travel Counsellors stand out from the rest?

We looked at one of the smaller franchises. But once we learned how Travel Counsellors stood above the rest from speaking with our own Travel Counsellor, it made sense to go with the best

Tell us a bit about the recruitment process

The recruitment process was smooth, easy and very friendly. When we had the discovery call and saw Phenix in action, we knew it was right for us.

How did you find the induction?

The induction process was great. Kristina and Kerry in the Training team were so friendly and ran everything at the correct pace to allow everyone to learn.

What are you both looking forward to most about being Travel Counsellors and running your business together?

Being able to hand-craft travel arrangements. As Travel Counsellors, we don’t just plan holidays – we create life-changing moments.

What are you goals for your business?

We’d love to achieve Gold! But in all seriousness, we want customer satisfaction and repeat business.
