Meet Hollie - supporting future Travel Counsellors every step of the way

Hollie joined Travel Counsellors in August and has quickly become a key member of our New Franchise Team. With a background rooted in travel and a genuine passion for helping people take the next step in their careers, Hollie works closely with prospective Travel Counsellors, supporting, guiding, and reassuring them as they explore whether becoming a franchisee is right for them.

We caught up with Hollie to learn more about why she chose Travel Counsellors, what drives her, and what prospective Travel Counsellors can expect when they begin their journey with us.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

Travel has always been part of my life. I started travelling long-haul and living overseas from the age of 10, and that early exposure sparked a passion that’s stayed with me ever since. I’ve now spent nearly 23 years working in the travel industry, alongside exploring, backpacking, and living in Australia.

I live in the Northwest with my partner, Garry, and our two children, Ayla (8) and Bobby (5). Outside of work, I love being outdoors, exploring, and spending time with family and friends.

How did you move into recruitment?

During the pandemic, I was made redundant from a long-term travel sales role while nine months pregnant. I took time out to reflect on what I wanted next. Then, after a call with a travel recruitment agency, I found myself working in travel recruitment just two days later.

It meant I could stay in the industry I love while helping others shape their own future in travel.

What attracted you to Travel Counsellors?

I’d always been aware of Travel Counsellors through friends and colleagues, and I admired the business from afar. The values, the people, and the flexibility really stood out. Since joining, I’ve found a better work-life balance and a company that genuinely lives by what it stands for.

What does your role involve?

I work closely with prospective Travel Counsellors, supporting and guiding them as they explore whether franchise ownership is right for them. The recruitment process is led by the individual – their timing, their goals, and their future business.

My role is to answer questions honestly, provide reassurance, and show what support, tools, and systems are available at Travel Counsellors.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s the people. I love meeting individuals who are passionate about travel and supporting them as they consider a new direction or setting up their own business. Being part of that journey and helping people open up new possibilities is incredibly rewarding.

How do you support people who have reservations about becoming a business owner?

Most people have the same questions and concerns at the start, and that’s completely normal. I encourage prospective Travel Counsellors to speak with existing franchisees who will share their experiences honestly.

Alongside that, there’s extensive support available, including the head office team, a 24/7 duty office, and a strong mentor programme. I always say that while you may work from home alone, at Travel Counsellors you’re never alone.

What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a Travel Counsellor?

If you’re thinking about it and have the drive and ambition, it’s worth exploring. With the comprehensive support and industry-leading technology we have in place, running your own travel business can feel far more achievable than you might expect.
