Running 100km across Europe: How Travel Counsellor, Louis, helped make a crazy fundraising idea happen

Joseph's mission wasn't an easy one - run ten 10km ‘races’ across Europe within just five days. For the 21-year-old, who was born with Down’s Syndrome and spent three weeks in intensive care with breathing difficulties, this was quite the undertaking – especially since he had never run more than a mile in one go before training for the challenge! And that’s before considering the logistical difficulty of planning a cross-European trip for Joseph and seven of his family members, during a busy Olympic summer.

That’s where Travel Counsellor, Louis Morris, came in. It was his job to breathe life into Joseph's dream, getting all the details right - from the coolest time of day to run to ensuring a restful recovery period between each run.

Louis planned a formidable journey, beginning in Amsterdam and moving through several European cities, avoiding Paris due to the Paralympics happening at the same time. Not just managing the travel logistics, Louis also had to scout out suitable 10k running routes — something he was perfectly equipped to do as an Ironman and marathoner himself. He ensured that Joseph and his accompanying family's overall comfort and accessibility were kept at the forefront, even booking a large Mercedes Sprinter van to avoid potential delays and stress.

Going the extra mile (no pun intended), Louis even joined Joseph in the final runs. Seeing Joseph accomplish his mission and observing the flood of donations for Altrincham Football Club Community Sports made it worth every minute of planning.
