Meet our Relationship Management Team: Nicky Proffitt

Did you know that all of our Travel Counsellors have a dedicated relationship manager, who’s there to offer any support they need – whether that’s coaching to help them take their business to the next level, delivering training, or offering wellbeing support. In our recent blog, we looked into the role of our relationship managers in more detail, and now we’re giving you the opportunity to meet the amazing people who make up this incredible team.

We’re starting off with Nicky Proffitt, who’s been with us since 2016. We sat down with Nicky to find out more about her, and why she finds her role here at Travel Counsellors so rewarding.

Hi Nicky! Could you start by telling us a little bit about your career background?

I've always had a passion for travel from being a little girl and travelling abroad with my mum and dad. After studying travel and tourism at college in 1989, I began working for Thomas Cook. I stayed there for 12 years in various positions, mainly as a branch manager all around the North West. I absolutely loved it! After I got married and started a family in 2001, I then became a self-employed business owner with my husband in the catering industry, where we ran a successful business for 15 years. My love of travel and customer service never went away though, and I returned to the industry in 2014 as a cluster manager for Thomas Cook.

What brought you to Travel Counsellors?

For me, it was the company values and their passion for delivering the best customer service. I was also bought in by their commitment to look after everyone in the Travel Counsellors community by supporting them to achieve their dreams and goals.

In a nutshell, what do you do as a relationship manager?

In the relationship management team, we are all ILM level 5 qualified business coaches, and we are here to build a relationship with every single Travel Counsellor. We support them in their journey, helping them to grow and develop their businesses so that can achieve and exceed their goals. We have regular coaching calls and touchpoints to ensure they have all the support they need.

Why do relationship managers play such a key role in a Travel Counsellor's onboarding journey and onwards success?

From the very first day of launching their businesses, we as relationship managers want to ensure they all feel supported and help them to plug into the Travel Counsellors community - which is a vital element of their journey.  We all speak to lots of Travel Counsellors on a daily basis and can help with advice on how to set themselves up for success by building great habits in the early days of running their business.  We offer weekly calls of support in the first few weeks of their journey,  then regular one-to-one coaching sessions. Plus, we’re always on hand for support, whenever they need us.

What’s the most rewarding element of your job?

When I see Travel Counsellors literally change their lives as a result of growing their business - whether that be financially, a lifestyle change, or both.

What’s been your personal highlight since joining Travel Counsellors?

Seeing Travel Counsellors hit gold who I’ve coached from the very beginning of their journey is always a highlight

What’s the best thing about working for Travel Counsellors?

The community. There's nothing like it anywhere else.
